Founded in 2000, California Wushu Academy (CWA) creates a positive impact on the community by teaching people about integrity, respect, perseverance, self-discipline and self-confidence. Students gain a sense of power in their lives by developing their physical and mental potential through martial arts. CWA offers full-body conditioning that develops every muscle. We have a low student-teacher ratio, professional-level coaching, and a program that focuses on skill mastery rather than rank advancement.


What is wushu?

Over the last two millennia, well over one hundred distinct styles of martial arts have established themselves in Chinese culture. They include the disciplines of Shaolin, animal styles, weapon skills, and many others. Many of these styles have greatly influenced the development of the standardized art form known as wushu, a term which can be literally translated to mean "war art" or "military art".

Although contemporary wushu focuses mainly on performance rather than fighting, it provides many benefits, such as increased strength and flexibility, and improves overall health. It has become an international sport gaining exposure in venues around the world and in popular media, especially major motion pictures such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Iron Monkey, Kill Bill, and movies starring Jet Li, such as Hero. Captivating more and more people who want to gain its benefits, wushu is poised to establish itself as a major component of the martial arts and sports community.
