Our staff consists of several highly-qualified coaches:

Peter Hoogduin

Head Instructor

Peter Hoogduin began studying wushu in 1988 under Coach Kong Mien Ho. After coming to the United States, he continued his wushu training under several masters including Chinese Wushu Grand Master Dao Yun Chen and former Beijing Wushu Team member Li Jing. Peter has over 10 years of professional teaching experience, and has won several championships in both wushu and mixed martial arts tournaments. He has also trained intensively in Beijing, China with many high-level students and coaches from around the world, including Wu Bin (the former coach of Jet Li and the Beijing Wushu Team).

Having devoted his life to the advancement of wushu, Coach Peter now takes pride in coaching and holding his students to high standards. Through wushu training, his students are instilled with integrity and a sense of discipline, learning lessons applicable to both physical and mental development, so that they are able to achieve greatness in any endeavor.

Joann Wang

Assistant Coach

Joann Wang began studying wushu in 2000, trained under former Beijing Wushu Team member Li Jing and is currently trainng under coach Peter Hoogduin. As an assistant coach at CWA, she enjoys giving back her knowledge by helping teach students. With decent understanding on wushu techniques and movements, she has improved firm and swift. During 2002 CAAT and 2003 CMAT, she has won 1 gold and 2 silver metals. Her adage is "Give your best effort, and believe in yourself".

Justin Leong

Assistant Coach

Justin is currently a senior at Milpitas High School . Justin became interested in wushu in 2001 when he attended a demonstration and was captivated by the way the athletes performed difficult and stunning moves with such grace and speed. He has been training under coach Peter Hoogduin ever since. Wushu’s difficulty factor is one of Justin’s favorite aspects of it, as well as the fact that wushu helps relieve stress and clear his mind.

Gary Soo

Assistant Coach

When he was young, Gary was exposed to a number of martial arts such as kung fu, karate, capoeira, and taekwondo. In 2004, he rediscovered his love for them and begain training wushu extensively under coach Peter Hoogduin. Gary has a wide variety of passions, including wushu, piano, badminton, soccer, graphic design, and animation. He enjoys sharing his knowledge and believes that discovering and pursuing your passions is the key to happiness and success in life.
